Get Some CONTROL in Your Life!

Posted on

UPDATE: I have randomly chosen a winner for a copy of CONTROL…Elaine Webb. Send me an email at redrumhorror@gmail.com with your mailing address, Ms. Webb!

My second novel, CONTROL, was released in November by Thunderstorm Books in a limited edition hardcover. Only 80 copies were printed, and they sold out in about two weeks. A paperback edition will surface someday, but for now CONTROL is out of print and unavailable.

That said, I have an unnumbered edition of the hardcover in my hot little hands that needs a good home. So here’s the deal: in the comments below, tell me what was your favorite book of 2012 and why. It can be any genre, fiction or non-fiction, as long as it came out this year. At the end of the month I’ll randomly select one of the posts and that lucky bastard will win his or her very own copy of CONTROL. Sound good?

Feel free to spread the word: the more the merrier, ya’ll.

  3. I’m going to have to go with Michael Koryta’s The Prophet. I’ve spent most of this year burning through first his excellent Lincoln Perry series, as well as his standalone supernatural mysteries, liking each successive one just a little bit more. Then I read The Prophet. This is where I saw an author–and an excellent one at that–make a quantum leap when it came to plotting, storytelling and characterization. Reading this book, I realized I was reading the work of an author at the top of his game…for now, but that he will likely continue to get even better. That’s always a pleasure to experience.

It probably has to be Last Days by Adam Nevill. Barely slept at all while reading it but worth it all the same.

  5. First book that comes to mind is probably the right choice, so I’ll say “The Croning” by Laird Barron. Thinking further, I realize I have read almost NO non-fiction books this year, and very little outside the horror genre. Hmmm. Gonna have to change that up in ’13!

  6. My favorite book this year was Shane McKenzie’ Drawn & Quartered. Don’t enter me for this though, because my wife already got me a copy of Control. I will repost this though so more people can try and win this book.

  7. Wish I had grabbed this when it came out, but it’s awesome of you to offer a copy to some lucky person. This year there have been quite a few books that blew me away. Like Tristan above Drawn & Quartered was amazing. Shane’s stuff since Infinity House just keeps getting better. But if I really have to choose just one I have to go with Wrath James White and Andre Duza’s Son of a Bitch. This had so many elements I love in a good horror book, gore, weird characters, fast pacing, but what topped the icing was the hilarious ending. Nothing like a great laugh when you plow through all the tension building up.

  9. My favorite of 2012 (so far, anyway) is Joe Landale’s EDGE OF DARK WATER. Months later, those characters are still with me. I’ve admired Lansdale’s work for a while, but this one showed that he continues to grow as a writer.

    • That I’ve read this yearm and released this year would have to be Tales from the Yellow Rose Diner. Anthology of sorts revolving around the Yellow Rose Diner. Damn fine, enjoyable read.

  10. Without a doubt it was “The Croning” by Laird Barron. The sense of dread it created stayed with me for days, and the man has such a beautiful way with words.

  12. I don’t get extra points for saying that fine series of Sam Truman stories, do I? Dammit. I’ll go with Zippered Flesh, edited by Weldon Burge. There’s 20 or so stories in there from established names as well as newcomers, and only one of them stands out as being just a step below the rest.

  13. Good to see This Dark Earth by John Hornor Jacobs getting some love. That book would definitely be in my top ten for 2012.

My own favorite for 2012 is Last Call For The Living by Peter Farris. Farris’ debut novel scratched all the right itches with every page and had some impressive storytelling chops on display.
